Edmonton, AB - November 2, 2005 - Every week crime professionals select crime fiction novels to dissect on BOOKED - the ½ hour television book club now broadcasting on Canadian Learning Television, BookTelevision, CourtTV Canada and ACCESS. Starting Saturday, November 12 the true crime professionals of BOOKED turn their trained and experienced eyes to Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon. Published in 1930, the best known of Hammett's Sam Spade tales is just one of 13 novels covered on the first season of BOOKED.
Host and self-confessed murder mystery addict Fred Yackman leads a team of real-life crime experts through an in-depth dissection of the novel and its crime, checking the fiction against the reality of law enforcement, forensics and the legal system. BOOKED experts don't always agree and discussions are heated, humorous, and entertaining.
The experts appearing on BOOKED for The Maltese Falcon episode are book reviewer Barry Hammond; crime writer Janice MacDonald; private investigator Mike Straiton and writer and former lawyer Geo Takach.
The novels featured on past episodes were; Jeff Lindsay's Darkly Dreaming Dexter; Val McDermid's The Torment of Others; Peter Robinson's Strange Affair; Natsuo Kirino's Out; Jon Evans' Dark Places; Michael Connelly's The Closers; Giles Blunt's Blackfly Season and Greg Iles' Blood Memory. Upcoming episodes will focus on; Howard Engel's Memory Book; James O. Born's Shock Wave; Kathy Reich's Cross Bones and Karin Fossum's He Who Fears the Wolf.
The Maltese Falcon episode of BOOKED will be broadcast on (all times Eastern Standard Time):
- ACCESS, on Saturday, November 12 at 8:00pm
- BookTelevision, on Tuesday, November 15 at 12:30pm and 8:30pm
- Repeated on Wednesday November 16 at 4:00am.
- Canadian Learning Television on Friday November 18 at 9:00pm.
- Repeated on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00am.
- CourtTV Canada on Wednesday November 23 at 7:00am, 6:00pm and 11:00pm.
All episodes will be rebroadcast over the following months and the series will be aired on Bravo! starting in 2006.
