Melissa Jacques has just defended her doctoral dissertation, Tracing the Holocaust: Experiments in Late Twentieth-Century Art and Literature, in English and Film Studies at the University of Alberta. Jacques' dissertation explores the relationship between aesthetic innovation and historical trauma. When not at work, Melissa spends much of her spare time reading mystery novels. In other words, literary form and traumatic experience are fundamental elements of her 'leisure' reading, too. She's only recently made this connection.
